4a Pipe Bands are required to play selections from the MAP list of tunes. (below)

 

It is emphasised that these tunes are not TEST pieces and therefore bands may customize the music by adding or deleting embellishments as they see as appropiate to suit their ability.

 

4 tunes are required.

 

The required "Style and Interpretation" will continue to be "Spirited and Lively"  (i.e. "rhythmic and expressive with clarity of execution and good musical effect")

Grade 4 and Novice Juvenile Competition format for 2006-07   /  M.A.P.

The RSPBA introduced a new Musical Appreciation and Presentation (MAP) competition format in 2006 at Major Championships for Grade 4 and Novice Juvenile pipe bands.  To assist bands in preparing for the new competition format a self-development educational programme has been created by the RSPBA’s Academy of Pipe Band Musicianship. 

At the SUSPBA AGM on June 7, 2008, it was decided to implement this MAP program for grade 4A competitions for the 2008-09 season.

Medley Selections will stay as before

Grade 4B bands - no changes from last year.
Grade 5 bands - no changes from last year.
